At Sprezzatura, we help athletes bridge the gap between practice and performance. Strength, power, speed, and mental resilience don't appear on their own. Through evidence-based strength and conditioning, individualized programming, and practical education, we develop the qualities that underpin athletic success: strength, power, speed, endurance, mobility, and resilience. Why Train with Sprezzatura?

Our programs are built using up-to-date sport science research, not social media trends.

SAFE AND HEALTHY SPACE

There is no "average" person. We acknowledge and support athletes of every shape and size including those who are neurodivergent, queer or gender fluid, those dealing with complex chronic medical conditions or otherwise feel part of an underrepresented group in fencing and combat sports.

GET EDUCATED

We don't want you relying on a coach forever (although that's an ideal business model). Instead, we help athletes learn to take care of their bodies for the long term and in some cases even design their own training plans.

FIT YOUR SCHEDULE

Training is tailored to fit your current level of conditioning, AND when and how you train.  Fence twice a with your team? Great.  Do other sports too? No problem. It's your program, so it should fit around what you love to do.

FULL SPECTRUM TRAINING

 We are an entirely different concept from what you'll find at your local gym. Sprezzatura is sport performance training: a head to toe look at how you fence, compete, and recover. In addition to fitness we help fencers with competition anxiety, stress and resiliency, training schedule design and more.

Our 5 Pillars of Conditioning & Wellness that we want every athlete to master. 

  1. Programming. The what, when, and how of training, which should match your abilities, goals, and competition cycle. 

  2. Movement.  Your speed, power, and metabolic fitness. Moving like an athlete from the first step to the last on the piste.

  3. Mobility and Stability. Avoiding movement patterns that put joints at risk by maximizing your body's range of motion & the stabilizing muscles that keep them strong.

  4. Mental Performance. Greater focus and awareness, emotional regulation, and tools for an elite mindset. 

  5. Recovery.  Taking care of your body with high quality sleep, nutrition, and other habits that help you bounce back faster.

MEET YOUR COACH

I’m Liz Scott MD CSCS, sports medicine surgeon, HEMA coach, and strength & conditioning specialist. With years of experience in both medicine and coaching, I help fencers of all disciplines build strength, agility, and endurance while reducing their risk of injury. My approach blends cutting-edge sports science with practical, battle-tested training methods to help you feel and perform your best, whether you're stepping onto the piste for international competition or just sharpening your skills for the long game.
